Mustang vs Miata vs Golf for Beginners

Three great platforms, three very different lessons. We run two of them, and we'll still tell you the truth about all three.

Golf — the teacher

Front-wheel drive, modest power, cheap consumables. It forces you to be smooth and carry momentum, which builds the fundamentals faster than anything else. Most seat time per dollar in our garage.

Miata — the balance

Rear-wheel drive, beautifully balanced, enormous community, and one of the best-supported racing platforms in the world. A superb first rear-drive car, and the reason it's on our fleet roadmap.

Mustang — the amplifier

Big torque, big brakes, big lessons. It teaches throttle discipline immediately and rewards clean exits with real speed. It also costs the most per weekend to run. Best after you have a few events behind you.

Our honest recommendation

Golf first, Mustang second, Miata whenever you want the purest rear-drive learning experience. If you tell us your goals on the phone, we'll recommend whichever fits — including the cheaper one.
