What Should I Wear to My First Track Day?

Short list, no gatekeeping, and one thing you should absolutely buy new.

The required list

  • A current Snell-rated helmet — buy this new, never used
  • Closed-toe shoes with a thin sole
  • Long pants, natural fiber (cotton, not polyester)
  • A long-sleeve shirt — required at many events, smart at all of them

The stuff that makes the day better

  • More water than you think you need, plus electrolytes
  • Sunscreen and a hat for the paddock
  • A folding chair and shade
  • Real food — snack bars are not lunch when you're this dehydrated
  • A tire pressure gauge and a torque wrench if you're in your own car

What you don't need

A full race suit for HPDE. Matching team gear. Anyone's approval. Show up in jeans and a cotton shirt and you will fit in perfectly.
