We build race cars for a living and we still tell most people to rent first. Here's the honest math.
Ask yourself how many weekends
Under six events a year, renting almost always wins financially and always wins on hassle. Above eight, ownership starts to make sense — if you enjoy the maintenance.
Ask yourself whether you like wrenching
This is the real question. Owning a race car is a maintenance hobby with occasional driving. If the garage time is the reward, buy. If it's the tax, rent.
Ask yourself whether you know what you want yet
Most first race cars get sold within two years because the owner discovered they wanted a different series, a different platform, or a different level of commitment. A season of renting is cheap tuition on that question.
