Why Slick Tires Can Slow Your Learning

More grip means less feedback, later warnings, and a bigger surprise when you finally find the limit.

Grip hides mistakes

A big sticky tire will paper over a sloppy entry, a late brake release, and a greedy throttle application. You'll go faster and learn less. The lap time improves; the driver doesn't.

Warning time matters

Street and 200-treadwear tires slide progressively and talk to you the whole way. Slicks have a narrower window and let go faster. A new driver needs a car that gives them a long, obvious warning.

The counter-argument

Once you're consistent and you're chasing tenths in a competitive class, the right tire is the right tire. This isn't dogma — it's sequencing.
